I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 29th September, from which we note with regret that Nr. G. C. Shepherd died on the 29th of September, 1911.
2. To have forwarded a copy of your letter to the Colonial Office as th question of any gratuity to the widow is one which will be dealt with by the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and you will doubtless receive a communication from that Department in dur course.
3. We addressed a letter to Vr. Shepherd on the 19th September, lost, in which was enclosed a letter addressed to Sir Patrick Manson, and we should be glad if you wo d
return that enclosure to us.
4. I take this opportunity of expressing for you
and the other relations of the dece sed, our sympathy
with you in your hereavemmt.
